The first five seasons of BattleBots blended the amazing with the absurd. It was had to take much of the production seriously (Sean Salisbury talking about robots!?!?!) but the actual competition was pretty incredible. Former Playboy Playmate Carmen Electra and Traci Bingham served as "sideline reporters." There was even an in-ring announcer. The original show, hosted by comedian Bill Dwyer and former quarterback and ESPN analyst Sean Salisbury (Who was replaced by former NFL linebacker Tim Green after season one) along with appearances by Bill Nye and MythBusters' Jamie Hyneman, featured some of the top minds in engineering and science pitting the robotic fighting machines against one another inside the always dangerous BattleBox. From 2000 to 2002, the intersection of combat sports and geekdom was a major part of Comedy Central's attempt to blend sports, comedy, and smidgen of intellect. After a 13-year hiatus, BattleBots returns with a six episode season airing on ABC.
